Built for Compliance. Engineered for Longevity.
For one of our recent projects in an industrial food processing facility, Southern Thermal Solutions was tasked with designing and installing a fully insulated metal panel duct system to support a new 45,000 CFM air unit. This facility operates under strict USDA standards, and every component of the air distribution system needed to meet those expectations for sanitation, durability, and long-term performance.
Custom Fabrication, Built to Fit
To achieve the performance standards this project required, our team installed more than 600 feet of insulated metal panel ductwork from the air unit into the building. Each panel was custom-cut in the field, allowing us to navigate ceiling obstacles and maintain a clean, efficient airflow path throughout the plant.
The duct interior features a smooth stainless-steel finish that supports sanitary operations and USDA inspections, while the automotive-grade exterior provides durability that will stand up to decades of use. Every joint is fully foam-sealed to create a complete vapor barrier, protecting insulation performance and preventing moisture intrusion.
Engineered for Reliability
Because food processing environments demand consistent sanitation and temperature control, the duct system was designed with long-term access and maintenance in mind. We incorporated specialized access doors built for the facility’s temperature range, allowing staff to reach interior components safely and efficiently.
At the top of the system, we integrated an EPDM roofing layer that creates a watertight exterior. Combined with the fully sealed panel construction, the result is an airtight, weatherproof system capable of maintaining stable performance year-round.
Attention to Detail That Delivers Value
Every component of this duct system, down to the corners, penetrations, and trim, was fabricated to fit the client’s specific environment. By handling fabrication in-house and performing custom adjustments on site, our team ensured the system met all USDA criteria without compromise.
The result is a durable, efficient air distribution system that supports cleaner operations, improved airflow, and long-term energy performance. By focusing on the details that matter, we help our clients move forward with confidence, knowing they are equipped with systems that will support their success well into the future.
Looking Ahead with Confidence
As this project progresses, our focus is on completing the exterior freezer walls, moving into underfloor finishing, and ultimately wrapping up the cold dock and office panel installations. Our end goal is to deliver high-quality, energy-efficient, and structurally sound thermal solutions. Our commitment to completing projects on time, within budget, and in compliance with the highest safety standards ensures that we provide the optimal solution for our clients.
